Knowledge Commons DC Kicks off September Session with Art, Pinata, and Picnic

With humidity and late summer heat marking the beginning of September, Knowledge Commons DC opened our newest session with a picnic and party in Sheridan Circle. We welcomed both new and old participants, had a bounty of exciting food for all, and recreated and put our own unique spin on some well known art. Check out the picture below and see if you can figure out the inspiration. We’ll be putting more photos up on our Flickr, be sure to check it out to see what other art we were inspired to create anew. We’ll also be posting photos from our September session courses. To ring in the official opening, we had our own ship bottle smashing of sorts. A handmade suitcase pinata with our logo on it, made during our summer session, was hung up and everyone had a chance to bring in our new season with a smash - a pinata smash that is! We hope to see many of you soon in our classes, and at our Knowledge Commons events, coming to a park near you!

Erika Rydberg, a D.C. transplant from the northernly lands of Boston, got involved with Knowledge Commons DC after an awesome experience in a Brookline, Mass., community skillshare during her college days. By day she works at a library and by night she can be found performing poetry, listening to music, or cooking copious amounts of vegetarian food.
