Ooooh Yeeeeah: Stretching Together

Teacher: Kirsten “Kiko” Bourne, yoga teacher and food industry consultant
Facilitator: Victoria Rocha

What was the weirdest thing you learned?
Most students had come with a partner, but I stretched with another non-partnered participant. I wouldn’t call it weird, but it takes a lot of trust to essentially sit on a stranger’s back. Once that trust was established, it really did feel good to have them help your stretching out — it gives a much deeper stretch. Plus we all massaged the ridge of the skull meeting the neck on each other in a circle and it felt goooood.

What did you learn that you can put into practice immediately?
Any of the individual yoga poses would be great just to enhance flexibility and unwind.

What can people read/watch for more information on this topic?
Kiko does classes and discussions both on yoga and food, which can be found here: http://kikosfoodnews.com/yoga-with-kiko/

Are there any groups dedicated to this topic in the area?
Yoga studios are all over the city, but what I liked about Kiko’s class was that we did it in the alley way behind her house. It was really neat being outside, listening to the sounds of D.C., stretching, and meditating. You feel very present in your surroundings.

Anything else fun you’d like to tell future students of this class?
Kiko did a great job of pointing out just how much humans need physical touch. Be trusting of your fellow yoga-ers and enjoy!
