Art Theft Through the Ages

date Monday, 21 January 2013 time 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

👤 Bradford Barr, Elena Goukassian, Rachel Sadon 🏢 Hamiltonian Gallery

Past

For as long as people have been collecting art, others have been pilfering it. Whether out of malice, in the name of class warfare, or in the hope of quick riches, stealing art has become an art in and of itself. Most heists are meticulously planned and take less than five minutes. Some have dramatic consequences; others are comic failures.

Explore art thievery at its finest with us — from the storied past of the Mona Lisa (she got around) to the recent Monet/Gauguin/Matisse debacle in Rotterdam. We’ll also discuss the motivations behind art theft and why crooks often get caught. As a special treat, KCDC’s resident hacker, Bradford Barr, will finish the class with a lesson in art theft techniques.
