Seriously love “Serial”? Want to experiment with audio like “RadioLab” does? Learn the basics of audio storytelling in this three-class workshop.

Please plan to attend all three sessions. The classes are cumulative. If you don’t go to all three, you’re taking a slot away from someone who would.

You’ll need to bring a smartphone, a laptop with a microphone, or a digital recorder to class.

By the end of the workshop, you’ll have produced a short audio piece.

Wednesday, Oct. 7: Interviewing Basics
Learn to conduct the perfect interview. You’ll listen to examples of well-conducted interviews, find out how to ask great questions, and practice interviewing other students.

Wednesday, Oct. 14: Editing Basics
This class will introduce you to various forms of audio storytelling, including books on tape, radio dramas, reporting, and creative non-fiction. You’ll also learn the technical skills needed to record and edit audio work. We’ll cover recording tools like digital recorders and smartphone apps, plus the basic functions of Audacity. After this class, you should begin recording and editing your audio piece.

Wednesday, Oct. 21: Editing Workshop
Bring your audio project for this extended workshop session. It’s not a formal class — we’ll just be working toward your finished product. The instructors will help you troubleshoot, and will provide guidance and technical support.

Please meet in Digital Commons.
