Past

Capoeira is an art form that blends fighting techniques with fluid dance movements in a ritual involving call and response. It originated with enslaved Africans in Brazil, who combined elements of their cultures into a response to the oppression of slavery. Today, capoeira is a martial art and a social-political movement practiced across the world by every race, age, and gender.

Please wear comfortable shoes and loose-fitting pants. Students will participate in a music demonstration and discussion along with the movements. No prior experience is necessary.
