Crypto: Unplugged

date Wednesday, 17 July 2013 time 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

👤 Bradford Barr 🏢 Amanda's House

Past

In this hands-on workshop students will learn the history and basics of cryptography via analog means. No computers necessary; everything will be done by hand. We’ll cover the insecure (but fun) Caesar and book ciphers, as well as strong (but time-consuming) cryptography focusing on one-time pads and the solitaire cipher. We’ll show you how to create encrypted messages that will be (near) impossible for the Feds to break and teach you proper crypto-hygiene techniques to ensure the safety of your communications.

This class will have a materials cost of $2 or $3 (for 10-sided dice, they have nicer statistical properties than six-sided dice). Paper and pens (NO PENCILS!) will be required.
