Between two of Bruce Springsteen’s loudest, most ambitious albums – “The River” and “Born in the USA” — lies a quiet, introspective solo record. Recorded on a cassette deck, 1982’s “Nebraska” features some of the Springsteen’s grimmest and most challenging songs: The title track looks back on a Midwestern shooting spree; “Johnny 99” follows a convict caught in a vicious criminal justice system; “Highway Patrolman” zooms in on a brother torn between duty and love of family.

Critically lauded but commercially unremarkable, “Nebraska” marks one of the strangest moments of Springsteen’s career. We’ll explore the album through audio and video clips, touching on artistic reinvention, copyright, and creative influences as we go.
