Everyone’s a Drummer: Breaking Gender Stereotypes in “Male” Genres
Part workshop, part interactive lecture, part live music performance, this class will highlight the history, mechanics, and joys of drumming. You can expect to:
- Learn the basics of tempo and rhythm;
- Discuss how drums came to be considered a “male” instrument;
- Hear from the local, women-run rock band Ivy Rose about band members’ experiences as women in music: touring with Weezer, traveling around the Philippines, and much more.
By the end, you’ll know that drumming is for everyone. Period.
This class is part of an education series leading up to the Funk Parade on Saturday, May 7. Visit funkparade.com to learn more.
