Exploratory Jogging: Canal in Color
This edition of Exploratory Jogging will step off the pavement; into the forest; and under, over, and along the C&O Canal. After meandering over the rocks, roots, and rolling hills of a few lesser-known local trails, we’ll follow the flatter C&O Canal towpath for the return trip.
The route will cover five miles at a pace of roughly 10:00 min/mi, with frequent stops to check out small local parks, a community garden, the century-old remnants of a demolished bridge, the beginning of a 335-mile trail to Pittsburgh, and (hopefully) plenty of fall colors.
We’ll start near Woodley Park — meet at the pin on this map — and end at the C&O Canal near Foggy Bottom. Here’s the estimated route.
