Star Trek and Star Wars are two of the most well-loved pop culture hallmarks of the past 40 years, which as part of their synergistic growth have spawned accompanying literature (both sanctioned and rogue). In Fandom Face-off! we explore the academic concepts around modern fandom and in particular the Star Trek and Star Wars universes’ expansion through professional and non-professional literature.

In addition to short lectures and discussions about canon and non-canon literature, we’ll also undertake some creative writing activities to try out the concept of fan fiction first-hand. Course Location: We’d like to use a meeting room at one of the DC public libraries and are in the process of researching where. Ideally we’d like to find branch where A/V facilities are available.
