Food Sculptures (Not Necessarily For Consumption)

date Tuesday, 4 September 2012 time 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

👤 Sonia Booth 🏢 Crispus Attucks Park

Past

Ever wanted to make shrunken heads out of apples? Or rosettes out of Wonder Bread? Did you know that Wonder Bread never gets moldy? The object of this class is to start you thinking about food as art, and we will be experimenting. (Why is it so normal to carve a jack o’lantern out of a pumpkin and not a watermelon?)

This class is inspired by Martha Stewart, Joost Effers, who is the author of the series of books Play with Your Food, and an artist named Emily Berezin who made a life-size Wonder Woman sculpture out of eleven bags of Wonder Bread in 2008.

Bring bread, glue, a vegetable peeler and a knife. Also bring a container to take home artwork and consider wearing clothes you don’t care about to prevent staining your favorite shirt!

Location

Crispus Attucks Park
Rear of 1st St. and U St. NW
Washington, DC
Neighborhood: Bloomingdale
The park is in the alley bounded by U and V, and 1st and North Capitol.
