You, too, can look like a Day of the Dead sugar skull. (Sugar skulls by Yesica is licensed under CC BY-NC-ND 2.0.)

Learn how to paint your face to look like a skull or — even better — a sugar skull, those elaborate, ubiquitous icons of El Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead).

After practicing basic face painting techniques, we’ll work on a total skull transformation. First, we’ll do cheek designs, then the whole face, following the shape and structure of facial bones and using light and shadow for emphasis. Once the basic skull is complete, you’ll learn ways to make it resemble a brightly colored sugar skull.

Stay after the class for City Blossoms Movie Night: “The Nightmare Before Christmas”!
