Introduction to SNAP/Food Stamps in the District
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), also known as the Food Stamp Program, is the nation’s number-one defense against hunger. In the District of Columbia, one in five residents receives monthly SNAP benefits to help buy groceries.
This class will cover the basic history of SNAP — the foundations of federal nutrition programs and the Johnson administration’s War on Poverty — and delve into the intricacies of the SNAP application process in D.C.
All are welcome: advocates, policy wonks, individuals curious about their own eligibility for benefits.
This class is presented in partnership with The Hive 2.0.
