Learning to Look: A Primer in the Visual Language of Painting

date Saturday, 21 September 2013 time 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

👤 Gregory Lambert 🏢 Doris-Mae Gallery

Have you ever looked at a painting and thought “I can’t do that?” Do you know the shame of having nothing to add in a conversation about art? Are you terrified of concepts like mass, silhouette, value, hue, composition, and movement? Do you like art but have no idea how it is made?

Then this class is for you! Unlike an art history class, we’ll be focusing on the concepts that inform how artists actually make their art. Using examples of artwork from throughout history, this class will demystify the building blocks of visual language and composition. You won’t walk away a master, but you will know how the Old Masters managed to create such incredible work.
