‘Making Do’ in the Kitchen, Chinese-Style

date Thursday, 2 May 2013 time 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

👤 Jue Yang 🏢 Chateau Jue

Past

Much of Chinese cooking is not necessarily about what you have in the cupboard, but about the way of preparing things.

The Yang family is visiting the U.S. for the first time, and besides going to their first stand-up concert at the Black Cat, they would like to share with KCDC their love for cooking. Mr. Yang* specializes in street food and feasts, while Ms. Yang brings to the table the specialties of a (Chinese) mom. They will be teaching practical Chinese home cooking, using common Western tools and ingredients.

Mandarin speakers welcome! Mr. and Ms. Yang speak pretty limited English, so their daughter, Jue, will be translating. There is a $5 materials fee for this class, though no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

** Mr. Yang also likes to go by Lao Wang, which, depends on the circumstance, can be roughly translated into “rando,” “aw snap,” or “oh man.”
