Past

Madagascar sits off the eastern coast of Africa in the Indian Ocean. The island is home to plants and animals, such as the lemur, found nowhere else in the world. The same could be said about the island’s language: Malagasy is the only Austronesian tongue spoken on the African continent, sharing more linguistic roots with native Hawaiian languages than the nearby Swahili. In this class, you’ll speak a bit of Malagasy and learn about the customs and traditions of Madagascar.

This class is presented in partnership with Idle Time Books.
