Nature Lab 1: Collecting

date Saturday, 12 January 2013 time 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

👤 Bill Angelis and Leslie Sluger 🏢 Above the Bike Shop

Past

The joys of acquiring, sorting, and admiring bits of nature — leaves, shells, feathers, bugs — needn’t be left to children. Scientists, techies, artists, designers, and problem-solvers of other persuasions look to such collections for insight and inspiration.

In this session, the first of two, you’ll learn how to start a collection (there’s a little more to it than stashing spiders in a shoebox under the bed). We’ll discuss identifying, researching, and conserving specimens, and touch on rules, laws, and ethics.

First of two classes. Students are free to attend one or both. (The second class meets on the 19th.)
