The New York Horn Ensemble, directed by Ann Ellsworth, is dedicated to furthering the awareness of the French Horn, honoring its past and preparing for it\s future through musicianship, scholarship, and pedagogy. Its members include John Gattis, Amanda Tabor and Amr Selim. Special guest soloist to be announced….

As part one of a two day Horn Ensemble Weekend Extravaganza, artistic Director Ann Ellsworth leads the New York Horn Ensemble in a mini lecture series to be followed by a New Music concert which features works by Peter Maxwell Davies, Heinz Holliger and Vincent Persichetti, Daniel Schnyder, and Gene Pritsker’s “Still Unvanquished” for alphorn and samplestra which the Huffington Post described as “exalted as alpine air….”

Lecture topics include: “The Physics of the French Horn,” “An Anarchist’s Guide to Horn Making: Ingredients from your local hardware store” (audience participation cordially invited), “The History of the Horn: So Far from the Shofar” and “Hand Horn: The Perils and Beauty of Valvelessness ”

The class and concert will take place at the Dunes, featuring a stunning show of Discovery Channel photographers, a bar, and snacks. Get ready to learn the history, the mechanics, and the raison d’être of the French Horn.
