One Nation Under Punk: A Local Punk History Bike Tour
D.C. might be all politics, pink polos, and Trump hotels now, but once upon a time it was the international capital of punk music. Join us on an 8 mile (with many breaks) bike tour of the most important, interesting, and unexpected sites of D.C. punk history, including:
- The original 9:30 Club — now long since converted to a J. Crew.
- The South African Embassy — the site of the start of Revolution Summer, a social movement grounded in punk music.
- The Lone Star Beef House — D.C.’s only government-owned strip club that also hosted punk shows.
No prior knowledge is required, but interested parties can learn about all of these sites, and many more, at the D.C. Library’s Punk Archive.
