Open Secret: Imagining Histories and Futures of the Dupont Underground

date Thursday, 6 September 2012 time 5:45 p.m. to 7 p.m.

👤 Lucy Burnett 🏢 Dupont Underground

Past

Join Knowledge Commons DC for a creative exploration of the Dupont Underground.  This class explores some of the history of this briefly used, massive piece of outmoded infrastructure under one of the busiest neighborhoods in DC and draws on the Provisions Library research residency that will be culminating in an exhibition at the Goethe-Institut Washington that opens September 13th.  We will unpack the history of the defunct trolly car tunnel, and ask you to imagine possible uses, futures, and adaptations of the space that could contribute to a more dynamic cultural Capital. We will think about this 75,000 square foot void beneath Connecticut Ave stretches from R St to N St,in terms of what is and is not present: light, sound, possibility and practicality.

Please arrive promptly, wear closed toe shoes and bring a flashlight.
