From Order to Chaos: Foundations of the Modern Scientific Revolution

date Thursday, 9 July 2015 time 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

👤 Chris Milroy 🏢 Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library

Past

Most science classes teach students foundational, well-established concepts — Newton’s Laws, the periodic table, cell structures. This is not one of those classes! We will blow past anything applicable to everyday life and dive into the big stuff: the discoveries that rocked the scientific world in the last century or so.

From the smallest scales to the largest, modern science has dissected, rewritten, and in some cases taken a blowtorch to the simple and orderly theories that held science together into the 19th century. This class will make the wonders of modern science accessible by investigating three key discoveries of 20th-century physics.

You’ll leave the class with a cocktail-party-ready understanding of the following (invitations to cocktail parties not included):

The class meets in the Digital Commons Dream Lab.
