Performance Art: Past and Present
Artists like Lady Gaga and Jay Z, in his recent collaboration with Marina Abramovic, have made performance art a pop culture phenomenon. This class will provide a brief introduction to performance art — a medium in which pop culture and high art can and do intersect — and explore the works of Jackson Pollock, Vito Acconci, Allan Kaprow, Yoko Ono, and others.
