Those of you relying on Facebook to preserve your digital memories have us archivists a little worried! In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn about the benefits and risks of using Facebook for saving photos, video, and other content.

We’ll start by downloading an archived copy of your Facebook profile, in order to understand what actually gets saved. Then, we’ll discuss the rights you have to your content (even after death), which Facebook features you can use to enhance your archive, and what files you should probably keep somewhere else. Finally, we’ll look at how Facebook compares to other social media sites as a tool for personal archiving.

Please bring a laptop if you have one. We’ll meet in the Digital Commons Dream Lab.

This class is presented in partnership with DC Public Library.
