The World Cup captures the attention of millions worldwide, and it’s the only soccer event many Americans follow. That doesn’t mean they have a clue what’s going on. Who are these teams? Why is Iran playing Nigeria and the U.S. playing Portugal? Who are the players? How did they get here? Why is this such a big deal?

All are welcome, but the class is primarily directed at those with a novice or intermediate level of soccer knowledge. With a little insight and context, you might join the rest of the world as a soccer fan for life. You may even start calling it football.

This class is presented in partnership with DC Public Library.
