Map nerds, open data enthusiasts, and laser lovers, unite … to get creative with open city data. We will start with a brief introduction to open data initiatives and how to find open data that can be freely incorporated into your creative projects. You will then get hands-on with TileMill and Illustrator to design files based on open city data.

If time allows, Erika will laser cut your design into wood or acrylic. Because laser-cutting can be time-consuming, there will also be a selection of pre-made objects for you to take home.

The class will meet at the Fab LabA basic knowledge of Illustrator will be helpful, and feel free to bring a laptop with Illustrator if you have one.

Note: You will not be able to use the laser cutter yourself, but Erika can talk you through the orientation and training process if you would like to do so in the future.
