Zydeco in Two (Easy) Steps
Zydeco: the dance where you can have a beer in one hand and your partner in the other.
Right, left, right. Got that? Good, you’ll be able to Zydeco just fine during the first 30 minutes of class. Think dancing is beyond you? Zydeco isn’t. C’mon over even if you’ve never danced a step before in your life!
Modify the basic step to other music to look like you know what you’re doing when you’re lost on a dance floor. You can do it low and slow or fast with sass, and you’ll learn how in this class. No partner needed to attend, though you can bring one if you’d like.
Mardi Gras is February 28 this year. Be sure you’re ready to shake a tail feather by learning to Zydeco with us the Friday before Fat Tuesday!
The bar at Fringe will be open for business; don’t forget your ID if you’d like to drink. Non-alcoholic beverages will also be available.

Carter has been a KCDC student since 2011. As with many good things in her life, learning Zydeco was an accident. She was driving through Louisiana on her way from Alabama to Texas and ended up stopped in Iota, LA, by blockades — street party blockades! That day, old fellas she’d never met before taught her how to dance Zydeco in the dusty street to live music. She’s also been seen dancing at the Rock ‘n’ Bowl in New Orleans in a snowstorm.
