Pop-Up Space on Rhode Island Avenue

Join KCDC in our first storefront space. From October to December 2015, we’ll stage classes in a pop-up learning environment on the border of D.C.’s Brookland and Langdon neighborhoods.

Getting there

1613 Rhode Island Ave. NE
Washington, DC 20018
(map)

Metro: The space is a 20-minute walk from the Rhode Island Ave-Brentwood and Brookland/CUA  Metro stations, both on the Red Line.

Bus: Several bus lines run along Rhode Island Avenue. (Getting from downtown to the space, by bus, requires a transfer at the Rhode Island Ave station.) Not all buses run all days. Check schedules at wmata.com.

Buses from the Rhode Island Ave-Brentwood Metro:

Driving: There is unmetered street parking in the surrounding residential areas. READ THE SIGNS.

Biking: The side streets north of Rhode Island Avenue, in Brookland, offer less-stressful riding than the main roads. Visitors can bring bikes into the space. There is a Capital Bikeshare dock a block away, at the corner of 18th Street and Rhode Island Avenue NE.

Visiting

Hours: The space will be open 10-15 minutes before classes and events. Sign up for a fall session class.

Accessibility: There is a small ramp at the entrance to the space. Restrooms are small and do not have grabrails.

Funders and partners

This project is made possible by StorefrontsDC, a transformative initiative that activates vacant spaces and increases foot traffic in Washington, D.C., neighborhoods through an infusion of cultural projects. Led by CulturalDC, StorefrontsDC is supported by The National Endowment for the Arts, the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, and the Ron Abramson Family Foundation. The property for Knowledge Commons DC’s Pop-up Learning Space has been generously donated by The Menkiti Group.

Many thanks to Rhode Island Ave NE Main Street, Langdon Park Community Association, and our neighbors in Brookland and Langdon for their support. We’re grateful to our teachers, volunteers, and especially students for having helped build KCDC.
