Demons in the Microscope: The Great War, Medicine, and You

date Thursday, 22 October 2015 time 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

👤 Dexter Sumner 🏢 KCDC Pop-Up Learning Space

Past

Though World War I occurred a century ago, there are still many links between today’s society and the conflict. We can find them in fashion, food, linguistics, and universal suffrage, for example. This class will cover some of these links, with a focus on how the Great War influenced modern medicine. Dexter, your instructor, will lead discussions using photographs and props to reveal how the “war to end all wars” springboarded the development of life-saving drugs that fought the “demons in the microscope” — aka germs.

Learn more in the companion class, “Demons in the Microscope II: Antibiotics and the Great War,” on Oct. 29.
