date Saturday, 24 October 2015 time 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

👤 Dan Howlett 🏢 KCDC Pop-Up Learning Space

Past

This lecture will examine the causes of the Salem Witch Trials by looking at four men who represent the key factors at play. Thomas Putnam’s family led many of the accusations. Judge John Hathorne found suspects guilty. Rev. George Burroughs stood accused as the ringleader of the witches. Rev. Cotton Mather influenced the colony as a leading witchcraft expert. Together, they illustrate the combination of political, social, religious, and individual motivations that led to the execution of 19 people and the arrest of more than 150 suspects.
